Lucknow, India:

Mother’s milk can now be converted into powder form, stored in sachets and used as and when required, up to one month. Dr Neetu Singh, Associate Professor at the Centre for Advanced Research (CFAR) at the King George’s Medical University successfully conducted the ‘non-pasteurized human breast milk powder banking project’.

In about a 12-hour process, the milk is converted into powder form. From 20 ml mother’s milk 2.75 gram powder is made and from the 40 ml milk, 5 gram of powder is produced under strict sterilized protocol.

“The powder in packets can be stored and used for a month at room temperature, and if it is stored at 4 degree Celsius it can last up to three months,” said Dr Singh.
